Comments on the weekend

We have been given grace for the past two days due to wintry weather. Despite the snow, we still had to set up our tent, play a round of trivia, and hunt down the head line monitor. Because of our combined awesome-ness, we are currently the 15th tent in line! Special shout outs go to Justine for scaling the bleachers to get in front of people, and to Gene for knowing way more dirt/rando facts than the rest of us combined.

The King Pine Lodge, as we like to call our tent, is holding up well. Anna already stocked it with snacks and it will feel rather cozy once we put our sleeping bags/mattresses inside. Oh and btw, everybody else is jealous of our porch.

Everybody has been contributing even Ji Won even though she has the swine :-( , and we all can't wait to actually sleep in the tent once the weather improves!

Snuggles.

  1. By the grace of .... Zach White? We do not have tenting until Tuesday night.

Our tent members are sickly even before the challenge begins... Ji Won and CB have been attacked by the flu. Hopefully they will get better fast so that we can all snuggle in the tent without worrying about the unwanted transfer of germs.

  2. With the prospects of freezing rain in tonight's forecast, Zach White the HLM (I think I am going to start calling him Zachy) -- I mean Zachy extended our grace period until Wednesday morning. It will be another test of The Lodge's integrity, but I have faith.

After one of the largest snow storms that Durham has seen in a while, I entered kville to check on our home ("I feel like a first time homeowner!!!" -Doc Sweeners). The Lodge was standing tall, but that is more than other groups could say. The bitter cold temperatures and weight of the snow caused some groups' tent poles to snap, leaving them in quite a pickle, and definitely displaying that messing with mother nature for 5 weeks is never a cake walk.

I am very excited to get started. My fever broke today, much earlier than expected, but now that I can think straight, I have completed rush (PI KAPPA PHI Baby!) and my liver can function properly for at least a week, the only thing keeping me from the tent is a re-bolstered immune system. Can't Wait!

Can't wait for you guys to join me. I should go try and do some econ or something now.

    LOVE.

  5. NIGHT ONE IN THE KING PINE LODGE
(sam, justine, gene, anna, molly, andrei)

so the sexiest of the twelve are in the tent tonight. we are bundled and cozy, we have vitacrack and a lamp over our heads. our foyer is super clutch. we passed our first tent check at 23:41 and then got an hour of grace, which we spent in warm joy in the BC (jazz @ could have been an option but it wasn't that hopping). k-ville is actually not as much of a shit-show as we expected for the first night, there are only a few naked cameron crazies running around tripping on the blood of carolina fans; otherwise, it is quite calm. the voice of Harry Liberman ("Peter, shut up, I'm sick of your gay shit") does resonate from just a few muddy paces away though.
we have made a list of supplies to get; they include another air mattress (you see, there's room- CHRIS BROWN), more planks to cross the moat of mud, psychadelic drugs, a disco ball, and soccer-mom chairs. it's quite chilly outside but inside it's toasty. gene kicks ass. as does justine but that goes unsaid- she crossed cameron indoor to find zach white in 2.3 seconds. oh god harry is yelling like out of the lion king, unfortunate.
    peace out homeslices

  9. Tenting......night two!!!!!!!!

So tonight it's me, Chris, Anna, Molly, Sam and Gordon!

We were socializing outside for about 50 min when we had our first tent check of the night. So then the five of us (excluding
anna since she was with her bf..shh) headed to the Bryan Center to watch Gordon eat unhealthy Dillo food, NOT listen to Sam while she rambled about Hebrew homework, and to watch funny baby videos via youtube.

Right now, we are back in the tent, and Sam has left to use illegal substances, while Anna and I are bashing college ACB.

Gordon: BLOG BLOG BLOG I WANT YOUR BLOGGGGGGGGG (gaga reference for those who did not notice).

We also stalked Gene's facebook pics. He was all over the TV at the game, what-a-badass.

Duke v. Georgia Tech : 86-67 ...Go Duke!!!

    Quote of the night--

Me: Why don't we have easter off????? We had MLK off...
Anna: We should have it off because JESUS died!!!!!!!!!!
Erin: Anna, MLK died too (in a pit of laughter)

    Love,

    All of us

  11. Love this blog. headed to the tent in an hour - it'll be my first time there (aside from my brief visit to Andrei yesterday evening for about 30 minutes) in 24 hours. Oh, how I've missed the King Pine Lodge. Hooray for grace last night (I heard they called it around 3:30 AM - what jerks) through 10 AM this morning. Props to Andrei & JJ for being there for early tent check this morning around 10 ish. Several other tents missed it. And, supposedly, we have grace for the SuperBowl tonight? Anddd, it's supposed to be 20 degrees which means... GRACE (if below 25 degrees). nice.

    love alwayzzz &4eva

  12. Currently sitting in K-ville now.
Overheard: Conversation about the necessity of multiple layers of fat to keep warm. Evidently, some tents are warmer than others, so people with a lower percentage of body fat should sleep in those, whereas the tents with less insulation ought to house those people with higher percentages of body fat. Oh, Duke students.

  14. last night was Me, erin, CB, Gene, Justine, and Ji Won. Such a badass crew.

It was a night f no tent checks--therefore we all stayed up to talk laugh and bond (love you guys). However, by 1:35 the other tents were jealous and told us to be quiet...failll

quote of last night: CB: Notice how all of the asians are NOT on the air mattress

just found out there is grace until after the game!!!! King Pine Lodge is still up babe!!!!!

  15. SO MUCH GRACE. whatever are we to do with ourselves? After braving the freezing cold for a couple hours last night, trusty Zach White summoned the Gods of Grace for yet another night. Tenting resumed this morning at 9 AM.

  17. Listening to "No Scrubs" outside the KPL= very appropriate on this lovely valentines day.
    ...fuck valentines day, eh?!
anyways, there's tons of love in k-ville tonight (bow chicka wow wow). molly super-superfine dropped off a heart shaped mega brownie and various valentines accoutrements, so it's at this point that I find it approrpriate to ask:
molly superfine, will you be my valentine?! I LOVE YOU SOSOSOSOSOSOSO MUCH. anyways. i always ADORE times a million everyone in our tent group; you kids kick ass at life, and I know I don't reiterate that enough.

to recap last night- chris made his "dark and stormy"s and g + ts (with lime!) and we danced our saturday night away to the tune of bad romance (and no scrubs) and blink-182, etc, etc. good times were had by all and we capped (pi-kapped? hah) the night off with a 10,000 calorie (possibly, uh, more) feast of pizza (thin crust, that obvi makes up for it), two orders of cheesybread, and cinnastix. that's the kpl- covering all the food groups alllll niiiighghghhtttt long. we set the guinness record for the quicket inhalation of dominoes.

anyways, my fingers are falling off due to numbness of the frostbite.

but LOVE YOU ALL and YOU MEAN SO MUCH TO ME (I've always said that)

  18. ummm molly is already my valentine. thanksssssss

  19. rough night in the KPL...
did a check at 1230 that was a gongshow for manymany tents because of the douchebag taking people's cards/line monitors locking people in the IM gym (we think this was resolved)..got grace until 130 then just had another tent at 2..grace until 315. uhhh we'll see if they call another one at 4, they seem particularly vindictive tonight.

andrei and i ventured the hypothesis (after eating more pizza..ugh...in the gorgeously toasty women's locker room- thanks justine) that this is all because there is a growing coup against zach white because he's been giving too much grace (how can you have too much of our best friend grace?!) coincidence that one of the nights zach isn't here- they are douchy? we think not..MUTINY

also- line monitor was came up to our tent and asked if we were down to "chill". i said some of us have midterms; we then fistpounded through the tent and he said "this k-ville sucks my dick". dude, you would not get that from this k-ville, it has standards

    sorry for the angry post.

  20. So we welcome Harry Liberman to the KPL (oy vey, what are we doing?!) though we are incredibly depressed about JJ and her mono situation :( get ready for looong nights of loud and offensive comments (also- mirecourt has moved in next door so that will be interesting..)

epiphany- jazz @ the mary lou is the perfect thing to do on wednesdays before heading over to k-ville- the tunes and free snacks made the cold more bearable :)

only 3 more nights of blue tenting!! let's get that BP table set up eh?

    ReplyDelete
  21. So BLUE TENTING HAS ENDED!! tonight, white tenting commences. I have an inkling that this will be very healthy for the KPL's sanity.

I always had this conundrum when trying to get work done during the day at the tent: when using my laptop, sitting outside was a problem because of the sunlight of the screen, and curling up with the sleeping bags created issues because then I would just facebook/fall asleep. BUT I discovered a solution today!!! SIT IN A DECK CHAIR WITH LAPTOP IN FOYER OF TENT!! isn't this revolutionary!! like, I just did a whole pubpol paper just sitting here, and could actually view the screen properly. lovely.

anyways, it's raining buckets, but the weather lately has been warmer (ie, not below zero) so maybe we have good times ahead and the rain is just a period of suckyness.

we need to make k-ville rowdier, people. our coolness factor (already sky-high) would exponentially increase if we were to be the first tent to bring in a BP table, just sayin'.

also fuck date functions and semi-formal dresses. these two are somehow causing me more stress here than the 10-15pager for lit and memo for pubpol I have due next week. wtf

  23. WOW. so, i guess i'll go ahead and write the post about the first night of personal checks (last night). the fun began at 9 PM when all 12 members of all 100 tents in kville showed up (plus the walk up line folks - the line now wraps around the sidewalk from kville to towerview to the tennis stadium). anywho, we got started generous gifts from sam, erin, gene, anna, and others. with the music blasting and the temperature still above freezing, the night got off to a great start. OH - the peppermint patties were THE BEST. delicious.

pretty quickly, however, things went from wholesome friendly kville fun to tailgate meets shooters meets even more of a shit show (if thats possible). i saw more people stumbling around/being supported by friends/peeing in bushes/making out than i ever did at tailgate. the first check was called at midnight by the trusty and endearing kville siren. but, then, we all became confused upon hearing a second siren - unfortunately, it was a real siren. ambulance, police, and all. we've heard different numbers, ranging from 3 to 8, about the number of people driven away by the EMS. then, according to a line monitor, "the po-po shut us down - down, po - po shut us down." first time in history k-ville has ever been shut down. new high or new low?

my guess is that in past years, kville is pretty rowdy every night. but, this year, last night was the first crazy night. SO, people saved up everything they had for last night. also, it was FREEZING, so perhaps the liquid warmth theory was in effect?

anyways, kville was shut down at 12:40, poor walk-up liners had to stay here. and we got a good nights sleep in our own beds back on East. now, i'm here covering the morning shifts. (we missed a tent check a couple nights ago, so we're on top of our game now!!!).

an email update from kville leaders says no beer pong/other drinking games tonight, so maybe things will be a little less chaotic.

    KPL love forever.

let's decorate our shirts today, woooooo!

    cheers!

  24. Quote of the night comes from Andrei, who yelled at Zach White (I'M SO AWKKKK) when he was saying something over the microphone at the DJ station, "SHUT THE FUCK UP AND PLAY SOME LADY GAGA!"
